Question:
Gam Ice Skates or Riedell Skates?
2009-03-19 19:23:04 UTC
I am not sure which skates to get. I have a good interest in Gam skates but a little less in Riedell Skates. It is because I am going into Freestyle 1 and my Riedell White Ribbon Skates are getting weak. My coach suggested me to get Gam skates. I did a research on Gam skates and I think they are pretty affordable and by my opinion good skates. I am not sure about Riedell. Riedell is pretty pricey....... and I'm not sure if it's good material. Should I get Gam Skates or stick to Riedell skates?

Riedell is pricey because they are made in the US. Gam is made in Canada.

GAM and Jackson Ultima have merged. The GAM boot has a true leather boot in even their lower level skates. They also have an adjustable width in some of their sizes. Many of the same features in a GAM are also in the Jacksons. They are very comfortable, but they are both made a little wider than other boots and are better suited for people with high arches.

Riedell is an excellent skate. They are a well known brand and have a great reputation. Their newer lines are actually the best they've made so far. Extremely light weight compared to other boots which has greatly improved many skaters jumps. I would recommend the new 255TS for your level. They are also very comfortable, but aren't made as wide as Jacksons.

There is no "better" skate. There is just the skate that's better for you. Just like dress shoes, each boot will feel different depending on the brand and on your foot structure. Just make sure you get the boot and blade appropriate for your skate level, weight, height and your foot...don't go for something just because it's cheap or looks/sounds "cool" because you'll pay for it down the road.

A great place to do boot and blade comparisons is https://www.kinziescloset.com/Skate_Selection_Charts.html.

Riedell skates do tens to be a little more pricey. However, I don't really like either skate very much. I currently have Jacksons and they are wonderful! I got mine heat molded to my foot for free when I purchased them and they broke in very easily. I've never had blisters either!

Riedell Skates are the best for figure skating. I am in Delta 1 and have white Riedell Skates.

In my opinion Riedell skates are much better. They are more pricey, but they are higher quality. I would suggest upgrading your White Ribbon skates to something that would better meet your skating needs.

Here is a chart from Riedell for boot recommendations for your skating level.

But it's all up to you. If Gam skates better are better for you and your budget, then you should get then.

Good Luck! :-)

Gam and Riedell are both good makes. I would try both and see which feel more comfortable.

I just switched over from jackson's to riedell's and honestly riedells are soooo much better. Of course I wear customs but theres not much a difference, to me anyway. So I say you should stick with the Riedell's.

i havnt even heard of those kinds of skates, i have a good pair of Graf skates with a Gold Star blade, they are fantastic!!!, Jackson is also a very good name as well, if you plan to compete then i suggest to get either Graf or Jackson. They both have very good support systems. they will last you a while too.
