I just got new hockey skates today, and today was the first time I wore them on ice.. I couldn't even go fast.. I felt like i was 500lbs. last year with my Bauer Impact 100 pro skates I could skate fine and go a decent speed but with my new Bauer Vapour edge today I couldnt even skate... after a few strides I would be out of breath or just slow down... last year wasnt like that... I did also get a bigger size too I really wanna be how I was last year.. please help me. btw Im 13 years old and 130lbs.

While practice and speed drills make you faster/stronger, my guess is that you didn't get the blades sharpened when you bought the skates. Dull blades make skating hard work and yes, they make you feel like you're dragging a weight around the ice.

The good news is that it's good strengthening exercise because controlling them and pushing hard takes real exertion. Still, you need to take good care of your equipment.

Get the blades sharpened.

(If you did get them sharpened, go back to the sharpener and have them check the job. They may have given you the wrong ROH or someone might have forgotten to sharpen them entirely. It happens.)

Good luck!

That's a you problem, not a skate problem.

You could have the best skates in the world but if you're unfit and overweight it won't make a difference.

Skates do not make someone skate fast or well. The SKATER does that.

first of all, if you havent skated since last year, you could possibly just need to go through conditioning and second, brand new skates are going to feel very stiff. it takes about 5-10 skates to get em more adjusted to your feet. most skate shops bake your skates on your feet so they are very close to your foot size and shape. if your shop didnt do that ask if they can and if not ask where you can get them baked.

u shouldn't blame the skates. from your question, it seems like you haven't skated since last year. you can't come back a year later and expect to be exactly the same. u have to practice to be as good as you used to be. also, since you haven't skated since last year, you're probally in worse shape than you were last year. with some practice, you'll get back the skill you used to have and get in better shape as you do that.
