I'm just starting jumping Salchows again after a long time injured and I'm just starting Lutz jumps. Any tips on improving jumping confidence, any little tricks and techniques people have used would be much appreciated.

Whatever you do, don't try them on ice. Far too dangerous! Try doing them somewhere soft, like on your bed first.

The 2 are quite different.
One's an edge jump, of an inside edge, the other's a pick jump, off an outside edge.
I'd say try to perfect one then go for the other, rather than try both at the same time.
You definitely need a coach who knows both how to do these jumps well (especially the Lutz, which so many people cheat on) and (most important) how to communicate it to you so you understand.
Good luck.

i started salchows about 1 month ago. when ur going into the air, don't look down! I always look down but my teacher says not 2. make ur knee point to the other side of the rink (left side) i always make it look like a spin in the air but use ur knee and it will help. i'm in freeskate 4 so i don't know about lutz jumps. i only know a half lutz. GOOD LUCK! : )

Can you do any other jumps? Well practice them. Even if they're just basic toe loops, bunny hops and waltz jumps (three jumps), practic them and see how the landing is.
I have just done the Salchow and found it quite difficult. So try keeping your head up, and practice balancing either on or off the ice.

I just pretty much go for it. Don't be afraid to fall- it's a natural part of skating- though you probably know that. With the salchow, slow up on your 3-turn at first.

When I started lutz, my coach tells me it is just a flip going backwards, no three turn, and on an outside edge. It helped me.

Try doing it slowly and get those silicon gel pads ready to cushion your fall! You can try using jump ropes too. Good luck
you can do jumps with that too, also watch other people doing it as much as you can, it will start to stick in your brain. practice doing it somewhere where you know if you fall you will not hurt yourself! hope that helps! good luck!
